Weddings in Dorset

Dorset is such a beautiful part of the world which makes it an excellent choice for weddings!

I would have probably never have decided on living in Dorset before I eventually got persuaded. It’s definitely funny how life brings new opportunities, I can now very much say Dorset is very much now my home. I do find a sense of peace and a feeling of home in Bournemouth and the surrounding countryside.

Couples often ask to meet me before their wedding, and my answer is always the same “Come to Dorset for the weekend, and you won’t regret it” I recently purchased a flat in a place called Westbourne and have been busy renovating it back to its former glory. It’s definitely a learning curve with some of the DIY, but it’s a fun one at that! I’m definitely better with a camera in my hand than a hammer!

I’ve photographed at some incredible weddings in Dorset, they’re some fantastic venues for every type of wedding! On the west side of the county, you’ll find Pennsylvania Castle on the Isle of Portland a stunning Gothic mansion with sea views. Travelling further east down the coast, you’ll find the splendid Lulworth Castle a short distance from two of the most beautiful views in Dorset, Lulworth Cove & Durdledoor (google and you’ll see what I mean!)

If it’s more a barn wedding you’re after then, you’ll love Gorwell Farm, a beautifully converted barn nestled in a secluded valley so you can party the night away without disturbing anyone! Or if you’re after a more grander wedding, then either Kingston Maurward or St Giles House would be a great choice as they’re both stunning examples of period houses with plenty of photo opportunities around the grounds.

After a more festival style wedding? Then Larmer Tree (where ‘end of the festival’ is held) or Wilkswood near Swanage would be perfect for pitching up the tents and party hard into the night! Finally travelling to the east of the county there are lots of options from a Bournemouth beach wedding to a relaxed wedding at Sopley Mill a disused watermill by the river Avon or even Highcliffe Castle a grade one listed cliff-top mansion near Christchurch and the New Forest!

Sarah & Cam

We were drawn to Richards reportage style and colourful images when choosing a Dorset wedding photographer. I knew the photos would be good; we had done our research and the man clearly knew what he was doing but when we received the final photos we were just overwhelmed. He made us feel so comfortable and captured the day perfectly, we were so thrilled with the images.
