Oh, I have a special one for you today, Laura & Suzie had an incredible Chateau de Lisse wedding in Lot-et-Garonne within the Aquitaine region of South-West France in July this year, a great day to get married as it was also my birthday! I had met the couple before as they were guests at Holly & Max’s equally stunning wedding where they both had sung beautifully during the ceremony! Suzie is a west-end singer and after face-timing the couple I knew their wedding would be full of wonderful musicality.
I had been excited for this wedding leading up to the date, both Laura & Suzie are two the loveliest of people I have met and are so in love it makes you smile just seeing them together. Chateau de Lisse is also simply breathtaking, as you drive down the small french country roads you start to see the turrets emerge in the distance and then whole grandeur of the French Castle becomes apparent, built in the 14th century and local legend even has it that it once belonged to Joan of Arc’s brother! But it’s when you start to walk around the chateau you really get a sense of how great wedding venue it is, there are so many facets and beautiful areas for the various parts of the day that it never feels like your seeing the same part twice.
The sun was already getting intense as I started to document the day, staff at the venue were slowly starting to roll the tables for the reception, florists were delicately putting the finishing touches to the beautiful array of colourful flowers for the ceremony, children were taking one final dip in the swimming pool to cool down before being told to get ready and Laura & Suzie were both coincidentally writing their vows to each other in different rooms to the chateau… I do love the buzz of a wedding in the morning. The couple had both unknowingly decided on wedding dress designer Sassi Holford for each of their dresses and Sassi and her team worked there magic to make sure the dresses worked beautifully with one another (just check out their first kiss photograph and you will see what I mean!)
As the couple both got ready, guests started to arrive for the ceremony which was held in the chapel of the chateau, a rustic stone room with only a few small windows channelling light into the atmospheric space helped only with the flittering of candlelight at the altar. Both Laura & Suzie wanted to walk down the aisle so it was decided Suzie would go first, side by side with her father and would wait for Laura to arrive with her father, I love the expression on their faces as they both see each other in their dresses for the first time.
Music was going to always be a key element to this wedding and it was helped along by several of Suzie’s west-end colleagues who all sang for the couple, their beautiful voices echoing around the walls of the chapel and into the delighted ears of guests. The ceremony was conducted by a humanist celebrant based in France, I enjoy these types of ceremonies, they always make the effort to get to know the couple and to beautifully tell that story to everyone listening! After songs and readings, it was time for Laura & Suzie to face one another and read their vows, these are some of my favourite photographs, the combination of dresses, light and the pure joy on each of the couple’s faces working perfectly to create something magical.
Laura & Suzie had told me that they had a surprise for all their guests for the wedding breakfast, they both made their way upstairs as everyone found a seat on the grassed courtyard of the chateau, suddenly the couple appeared from neighbouring windows to serenade all their family and friends below! such a beautiful memorable moment for everyone to savour from the wedding. Once the couple had finished their song they made their way down so the wedding feast could begin, it is such a magical vibe on the courtyard of Chateau de Lisse, all their guests received personalised cards for each on their table place which they read, it must have take Laura & Suzie a lifetime to write but as you can tell from the reactions it was well worth the effort!
As the evening slowly etched its way to night it was time for the two brides to take to the dancefloor for the first dance! Such an incredible to see their Sassi Holford dresses swinging around as they danced their heart outs. Once the couple had dance side by side with their fathers it was time to move everyone to the front of the chateau to get the party started with a mixture of espresso martinis and a ceilidh dance for a few songs to get everyone’s heart racing!
I hope you adore Laura & Suzie’s Chateau de Lisse wedding as much as me! Please comment on the bottom and if you like this one then definitely check out Kat & Pierre’s and Aisling & Ciaran’s French weddings on the website.
